Business Analysis is a disciplined approach for introducing and managing change to organizations.
It provides structure, governance and repeatability to help ensure that changes are understood, well-managed and add the greatest value to the organization. This can be accomplished by working with the people in an organization to understand the structure of that organization, and to identify the processes (the way work gets done) and the knowledge (information and data) used by those processes. Once these things are understood, a business analyst can identify opportunities for improving performance (such as increasing revenue or reducing cost), resolving issues that impede performance, developing new capabilities to support growth, or even planning an exit strategy (such as selling or closing a business).
Business Analysis is the practice of enabling change in an enterprise by defining needs and recommending solutions. As business analysts, we play a key role in the successful delivery of change initiatives. We do this by understanding and defining the needs of our stakeholders, capturing and analyzing requirements, and supporting the communication and delivery of those requirements with relevant stakeholders. Business analysis is a critical practice for delivering value to organizations, whether they are for-profit businesses, non-profits, or governments.
Business Analysts may work across all levels of an organization. They may help define strategy and set objectives for an entire enterprise at the leadership level. They may also lead projects or initiatives to achieve strategic goals. They may assess current state business processes and make recommendations on how to improve them through technology or process improvement initiatives.
